Just signed up to volunteer for the Chartered Institute of Public Relations plan to go into UK schools and ‘put PR on the map’.
The idea is to build on the success of London and the South East which has already seen 176 volunteers going into schools to talk to 14-16 year olds about the PR industry. It will utilise workshops, career packs and volunteer visits to boost the appeal of careers in PR, reaching 15,000 students.
When I was at school, I knew that such jobs must exist but I didn’t have a clue what PR really entailed, what opportunities existed or how you would get a job in PR. We certainly didn’t have anything like this.
For my money, this is a great idea that will benefit both the public relations industry and young people alike. And better still, it’s using the power of the membership base to make it happen.
